Some more pictures of Waterpark Creek and a feeder creek.

There is alot of structure in this creek in the form of overhanging trees, mid stream rocks and submerged logs.

Beautiful country there, Spent part of my miss spent youth at nearby stoney creek camping area in the byfield state forest. Used to camp there every weekend in summer. Great times. Didn't do any fishing though, was more interested in the shiela's in those days!

G'Day Binder,

I'm told you can kayak Stoney Creek when there's a flow. I've got that on the radar for a future trip.

Must be a tradition for young fellas to head out that way on weekends. There was a bunch at the causeway with some bundy bears having some fun on knee boards in the overflowing water. Doing no harm to anyone. They asked to try a kayak so I lent them one while I went upstream. Nice young blokes then carried mine up to the car when I got back.  :thanks

A beautiful piece of the world.  :camera

What fish are in it Fitzy??

G'day Jim,

Actually I don't really know. Ive paddled upstream of the crossing a few times in recent years and haven't taken a rod, just enjoying the country. I have seen tarpon & mullet up there. I spoke to some locals who said there's good barra & jacks down in the tidal waters (not far down), i would think that there should be barra, jacks, grunter etc up that far, and I'm hoping Jungle Perch. They've recently upgraded that small weir at the crossing to include a reasonable looking slot type fishway; hopefully that will help any juveniles get up there.
Very fishy looking water.

Cheers,

fitzy..

Its a Vertical Slot fishway constructed in Oct last year and funded by Fitzroy Basin Association. (Don't ask me about how long it took to carve out the notch in the weir :( ). Should get some tarpon, mullet etc upstream, the odd barra but the best water for these is downstream but then you have to deal with the crocs. No JP's have been found in the catchment. It's due for some follow up sampling shortly so if we find anything of significance I'll update.

Regards
Darren

Looks nice, are there any rapids / rockbars to paddle over?
Cheers

Downstream - yes. Upstream no BUT there are a gazillion snags and many of them just under the water. Keep your eyes open and it shouldn't be a problem.
