Topwater Bassin the DUCKPOND
« on: January 25, 2011, 10:31:03 PM »
Here's some pics from a session with Pete from Jim's Cleaning here in Hervey Bay,I took him up to Lake Gregory/Isis Balancing Storage aka the DuckPond just south of Bundy.
He commented on the way home it was the best bass fishing session he'd ever had especially the surface action and there was over 20 fish landed for the session.

This is a small Lake of approximately 200 hectares that has some fantastic Topwater Bass fishing around weed beds and Lilly pads as well as great subsurface fishing when the fish don't respond to surface offerings.

There were Bass caught and released on subsurface flies and lures but it was the topwater flies and lures that were the main target method in the afternoon.

There were some awesome surface strikes and hookups with Dahlergs and walk the dog style lures, the water clarity was excellent for a lake that has had so much rain in the last few months.

Using the HumminBird side imiging in conjunction with the standard  sonar the fish were located and targeted with the new  Minn Kota I-Pilot electric motor on the boat in anchor lock  mode allowed for little to no movement just as if the boat was at anchor.

This new system has been very effective every time I have used it on the lakes and rivers in the past few months on Barramundi and Bass.

There's a few more pics on my site from the afternoon on my site for those interested

Some pretty awesome bass there for what seems to be a not so large body of water !

Cheers

I love fishing that spot, spent nearly a week fishing there the first time Lenthalls went over and they closed the dam, it was the closest fishable water.

Yeh guys it's a top spot I first fished it way back in 01 and many times since and have always found fish in the same spots, very reliable!!!

Gordon that backwinder is a strange reel and that's why I use it for Bass,no winding line needed cause if you do the drag tightens :o and if ya lose line it losens bloody weird reel but effectve on the bass!!and I love surface fishing for them with fly.

Must have Wes. Tide wasn't right according to Steve. Try early next week when they are better.
