A fast and easy way to resize pics for posting on Sweetwater!
« on: September 28, 2010, 03:54:13 PM »
G'day guys.

most digital cameras these days take very good pics and produce pretty big files. These are too big to post on here and sometimes too big to email, but this little add-in for Windows makes resizing pics as easy as getting hit by a branch and falling out of a boat near Yarrawonga on the last cast of the day trying to retrieve your mate's lure (not that this happened to me or anything).

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx

Scroll down to "Image Resizer" (about 2/3 down the page on the right hand side).

download and install.

open windows explorer to where your pictures are stored. Select a pic or multiple pics (hold Ctrl key and click on them one at a time), right click on the selected pic(s) and select "resize pictures" from the pop-up menu.

The advanced options lets you select different "default" sizes and custom sizes. the program instantly creates a new picture file with either (small), (medium) or (large) after the original file name.

easy!

Cheers, NS

Wow Slates, that's awesome.  For a Victorian you're pretty bright.  Thankyou.  Way better than my method.

For reference this photo started out at 3.26mb.  As you can see, unless you are using a wide screen TV for a monitor the Large size will open a new window.  On my machine Medium is OK.

Here's the direct link to the software mentioned in Slates first post
http://download.microsoft.com/download/whistler/Install/2/WXP/EN-US/ImageResizerPowertoySetup.exe

Here's another one called PIXresizer. Can do single images or whole folders at a time. I just did 400 pics from one parent folder which picked up all subfolders, resized them & dumped them into a folder of my choice. All done in a few clicks.

Anyone using the free program Picasa3 for images also has a simple resize option.

After selecting the pic in Picasa.... click Export and a menu opens ...set size to 800 pixels and Image Quality to Custom[85], then click OK [these settings will remain until you alter them again] ...also you can do multiple pics all at once

On the forum after clicking Browse, you find the resized images in Pictures in a folder called Picasa Exports

Must have Wes. Tide wasn't right according to Steve. Try early next week when they are better.
