Inserting a google map to a thread?
« on: June 15, 2011, 03:53:22 PM »
Been having trouble inserting a google map into threads . I have been clicking on the "Link" tab on the top right of the map , where it gives you two options :

Paste link in email or IM

or

Paste HTML to embed in website

Then written in blue under all this, is the tab for the customised map

Here it gives you 3 steps
1. Customize ,2. Preview and 3. Copy and paste this HTML to embed in your website

then you get all this crap which I have inserted below ,

Yet when after puting this in a thread , and checking it with a preview before posting.......no map , just all that gobbledegook!!

Where am I going wrong?

Cheers,
Dave.

Ok, try this.... I've downloaded a script that should auto insert a google map into your post. Just grab the link to the map & put it into the post, the script should do the rest for you.

Will test & monitor it for stability

Cheers,

fitzy..

:thanks Well done Fitzy for the quick fix.

OK , to recap on how its done from now on

Select the google map you want to use on your thread.

Clink on the 'Link' tab on the right hand corner of your selected map.

Copy all the code from the 'Paste HTML to embed in website' option.

<iframe width="425" height="350" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" src="http://maps.google.co .......blah blah blah blah...................m.au/?ie=UTF8&amp;ll=-25.335448,135.745076&amp;spn=51.562488,78.662109&amp;t=h&amp;z=4&amp;output=embed"></iframe>
<small><a href="http://maps.google.co...blah blah blah blah........m.au/?ie=UTF8&amp;ll=-25.335448,135.745076&amp;spn=51.562488,78.662109&amp;t=h&amp;z=4&amp;source=embed" style="color:#0000FF;text-align:left">View Larger Map[/url]</small>

All the parts underlined need to be removed as they will appear in threads aswell due to the script that sweetwater now has .

Have I missed anything out Fitzy?

Cheers,
Dave.

1- Go to Google Maps

2- Locate the area you like

3- Click on the link option at the top right corner of the screen (see image 1)

4- From the pop up box, select and copy the top option Paste link in email or IM (see image 2)

5- Paste the whole link into a topic box on Sweetwater (see image 3)

6- Click on Post button & the software should do it all for you once the topic/post is reloaded

No need to delete anything. Either the regular link or the embed link will work, the software will do all the work.

Just copy either link, drop it into a topic & post it....  :tick
