Line for baitcasters

Was wondering what line people preffer and whats best for use on baitcaster reels be it braid, co-polymer, mono or other ? Does braid offer any casting advantage at all ? please let me know what you use yourself.

100% Braid, on all my reels.  20lb Bionic, Finns or Sunline Super PE.  If you're on a budget, try 14lb Fireline, but don't go any heavier than that with Fireline.

Steve like Dale says they all work up to a point but personally I wouldn't allow Fireline anywhere near a baitcaster; too much memory and it "fluffs" The other line I really like is Sufix 823, It's working well for me. I also tried Platypus Braid but it has to be wound on very tight, not always possible out in the boat. It has a tendency to dig down into the reel under any sort of a load. Works great on Spin reels tho. A mate of mine like his zero stretch mono but it's braid all the way for me.

The only braid ive really fished with is Tuff Line 15lb and Finns Origional PRT in 6lb  on spin gear and preffer the Finns and will prob look around the 10lb mark maybe heavier, Fireline i have not heard anything good about.

All this research is for my new pflueger patriarch xt on the way and do not really want to muck around too much just use it. A replacement or other option from my ABU  Black Max 3600 That i do not want to use very much.

I just put 8lb Platapus Classic on three low profile , 2 banax and a Daiwa BS2.
It works OK, but why not as a good tackle shop....  I mean I'm going to use this line...
I suppose you want soft line, a friend gets cheap blue braid on ebay...
It casts well on his Curado..
What did you think of the ABU Black Max?

You're getting a nice reel, so best not to skimp on the line you put on it. You can't go wrong with either Sufix 823 or Harro's Bionic. You didn't say what you were going after but I assume it's Bass. If you want an each way bet for a bit of Cod or Yella fishing 20lb in either of those will cast well and in the event of a birdy, they clean up reasonably well...That's depending on how major the nest is of course. If it's Bass only then you really don't need to go heavier than 15lb. Some tackle shops will spool the reel for you and only charge for the no of metres they put on it. The catch here is that they may not keep the line you want on their bulk stock for the spooling machine.

Randell the ABU Black Max goes bloody good i think theres no adjustable mag brake but still cast very well i landed a very nice mid 40's bass this afternoon with it and its great.

JD Isnt it ever a nice reel !  Im aiming to use it for Bass / Saratoga / Cod and Yellowbelly , Thats just what seems to find my lures  I was thinking between 10 and 15 would be ok but do you sacrifice ability to cast borderline small lures with the heavier line ? Currently i only have 2 baitcast rods from 7 to 10 kg so thats something i was thinking about with line choice aswell.

I run Finns on everything.

Most have 10lb.

20lb on the barra gear.

You know that stuff breaks at 9thousand lb, so will not go heavier.

Have bionic on one reel that has been there for like a million years.

I just get Charletons to spool off their bulk rolls these days.

a lot of braid is more choice than anything else. I love limp soft and thin braid. Always used spiderwire stealth, its still one of the thinnest for capacity around, and never found the need to change to another. Others like fused line, stiffer line, brightly coloured line. I've noticed Big W flogging at quite reasonable prices of late (for Australian prices, I'll still be buying mine from the US)

If you like to brag about catching fish on light rated line you cant go past the number 8 fencing wire called fireline. Virtually guaranteed to break at no less than twice the rated breaking strain.
Want to brag you caught a metre barra on 10lb line, use fireline

There are differences in Braid that many of us don't think about.  The higher priced braids are designed for deep saltwater work.  They are extremely fine and have piss poor abrasion resistance.  The coarser braids, Bionic, Platypus, Finns and Sunline SuperPE, are thick for the strength.  The guys at Nerang will probably tell you they're not as good because they are thicker (maybe they have less profit margin in them too.)  For your sort of fishing, you want abrasion resistance, and for that you need thickness.  I normally use 30lb on most of my reels, then I can use it for Barra or Bass, you just need to change leader size.

All good Steven and will do, Dale i think they where mainly aiming at there profit margine he was saying how such and such brand braid was $70 for 150m ...... i cant recall the name for the life of me now.
Im sort of thinking Bionic, Suffix or Finns now around the 15lb mark. Will everyone stop talking about fireline it makes me cringe

Regarding the reel, I suppose we all get used to a favourite.

I have about 4 different brands of bait casters and I always go back to my Silver Max.

It just fits so well like an extension of the hand and if they have produced the Black Max to feel the same then thats the way I will go when I can't keep this one alive any longer.

My spools cost 20-25 bucks at the most. And its not a top shot. Some mono for grip and the rest braid.
