Gordon that black max is built like a tank and casts well its a great reelk but do not want to use it as my main baitcaster it came from a special family friend.

You have reminded me, the last BC reel I bought was an ABU, I just took a look at it. It's a Revo SX, Its a ripper of a reel and just had a look it has 20lb Bionic on it.

Hi Beau,
I like Power Pro mate but mainly for heavier work. I have 2 baitcasters rigged with it one 30lb and one 20lb and they work a treat. I tried some in 15lb on a bass reel and it just didn't cast as well so I tried some 12lb Sufix 823 and it is heaps better. The Power Pro is great stuff and great value for money but I reckon Harro's Bionic is better.

I've had sunline castaway PE 16lb on my bass baitcaster and it has copped a flogging, I mean literally thousands of casts and hundreds of fish. I have reversed it four times now to use the fresher line underneath that is outside casting range. Yep, it cost me $70 for a 150m spool but it's over four years old now and I reckon it still breaks above 12lb and I fish it with confidence.

For the larger breaking strains I still stick to 8 strand PE's as they seem to have a better abrasion resistance than fused lines when dragged through timber.

You're right about that Castaway mate, I've got some 50lb on an ABU 6500 I keep for heavier duty stuff like timber. Mine's been on the reel for a few years and it's worth the money. It's just a bit hard to really justify that sort of dollars for a spool of braid . But it casts really well, and is pretty forgiving in the (odd) chance of a birdsnest.

Yeh, definately an acquired taste, but once you get into it you find it hard to go back to a spin reel. Accuracy is so much better. I have an Alphas with 15lb Toray (only 100m spool) trhat cost $40 and it's great. Also have a Banax Sedna that I reckon is very under rated with 10lb Sufix 823. Went up the Wilson River near home yesterday arvo and got acouple of Bass, one on surface and one on a "crankbait".

Well i got the reel yesterday and couldnt resist chucking some 10lb ice blue copolymer on it just to test it out before i go get me some Bionic.

Tell me how the hell ive been fishing without a good baitcaster for 15 years? Its pretty amazing how you can nock on logs and let a lure drop into the water, scored 3 bass on surface in 10 min doing just that this arvo. Casts a mile aswell. Every adjustment comes with a positive audible click its smooth and very light and i love it.

Sharing is good Steve, I love baitcasters, I've got a mate who says I'm crazy, but I just like the mechanics of these reels; particularly the good ones.

I never made the switch to braid

Maxima, Schnieder and the cheap bulk lines from Big W work wonders for me
