Tablelands trout in Summer?
« on: January 08, 2012, 10:14:14 AM »
My son Jules has got a trout addiction going and wants me to take him up to the NE Tablelands to chase a few Ebor way thereabouts, do any of you folk know hoe the trout fishing is up there in summer? do low water levels , higher temps shut em down a bit or do they still fish well through teh summer months? Any insights appreciated...i.e. is it worth doing a trip up there in the next week or so? -  :thanks

Dont they go belly up in the heat Jim ?
Thought that was one of the reasons they had to keep restocking the feral things  :walkplank
Tasty though  :)

My sentiments exactly Steve - but an eight year old boy has got his own fascinations and I've learnt new things/seen new countyry/fish supporting his wants :)

I do tend to be pretty mercenary with speckled carp tho - i.e. bag limit gets exploited to the max and they do cook up nice especially rainbows - was thinking of swinging home via a granite gorge or two for a cod to get some native fix on the way back tho :thumbsup

Summer fishing can be great if the grasshoppers are about, if your fly angling don't be afraid to bang the fly down like a total beginner or even twitch it a bit, as a bait fisherman take a net or get out early to catch some hoppers before they get too active.

Thanks for the heads up cfish - we managed to find a few, had several nice feeds - caught them on spinners, bait and fly - only place we drew a blank was the Blicks River - according to NSW Fisheries literature its declared trout water - but we couldn't hind any there except for the uppermost tributary streams - beautiful country tho!
