Cold and wet for northern coastal NSW
     

A severe weather warning for flash flooding has been issued for the Northern Rivers and the Mid North Coast.

A trough along the northern NSW coast and an inland trough are working together to generate copious amounts of rainfall for the Northern Rivers and the Mid North Coast.

In the 24 hours to 9am, Coffs Harbour received 90 mm of rain in the gauge, which is the highest daily rainfall total there since November last year.

Cape Byron received a 24 hour rainfall total of 83 mm, which is their highest daily total for October in at least seven years of records.

The rain is continuing to fall over Northern coastal NSW today and has already pushed Cape Byron above its wettest October total on record (for seven years of records).

Rain and showers have also kept temperatures well below average with Evans Head having it's coldest October day since 2003.

The rain will continue tomorrow in moist gusty easterly winds. There is a good chance of flooding in parts due to the already soaked ground being deluged with yet more water.

The rain should ease on Tuesday but wetter than average conditions are likely to persist over Spring and into Summer due to La Nina conditions.
