Dumaresq River sunburn
« on: January 26, 2012, 01:12:30 AM »
Yep , had patches of sun amongst the light rain out on the Dumaresq today ( Wednesday 25.1.12 ) . While coastal SEQLD has been copping a fair drop , I have been keeping an eye on the BOM site with the river levels . I noticed that the Mole/Dumaresq rivers were running at normal heights and made plans with Catfish Al to go and find him a Cod.

We put in at the same spot as my wife and I used last week but went downstream instead. It looked as it was a stroke of genius when after only the third cast ( and travelling only 20 metres ) we struck a cod. Al had a tap on the right of the snag with a spinnerbait and a few seconds after  , the cod smashed my Garra Tera on the left.

The Cod measured 60cms.

Al had numerous hits along the next couple of pools but no cigar.

I got lucky near a fisheries listening device ( for tagged cod ) .

But that was it for me too . No more fish were landed and the taps on the lures grew quiet. The sun did come out and it turned into a very pleasant afternoon.

I promised Al a Murray Cod , I will just have to make time to get him down there again.

Cheers,
Dave.

Ah that sucks for Al driving all that way for a donut. I found myself looking at the river heights there yesterday thinking about a trip on Sunday...

Good call there Dave things will be shot for a while round here now. A great shot of the Cod in the water mate they really belie their power when they are photographed quietly in the water like that. Well done Pat.

That's one of the greta things about the Dumaresq Pat, Even if the fish don't co-operate you're still in great country. You using Codman Spinnerbaits there or the Bassman size?
Cheers,
JD

The last few weeks JD , I have got all mine on timber hardbodies. StevenM and WayneD got their 'cricket score' of cod on Bassman 3/8 oz . Last year I got a few on Codman SB's with the soft plastic removed.

Cheers,
Dave.
