Would attend a Kayak / Canoe only Bass comp on Lake Wivenhoe?

If there is enough interest we will organise one for late winter 2008 to catch the end of the peak Bass season.

Things to consider

Proposed entry fee of Huh? = donation to stocking group.

Prizes / Sponsors - would you like prizes or just a trophy?

Duration - 1 day or 2 day event? Camping at Captain Logans Camp / Lumley Hill.

Please offer you feedback.

As stated above - we're happy to organise it if there's enough interest so please throw up your ideas here. I've organized & run other major fishing comps, this shouldn't be too hard in comparison.

Cheers,

Fitzy..

I`m in for sure.

I`d say a $30 donation from each entrant.

Prizes just a certificate....maybe a small tropy for the most Bass.

Trolling?  Casting only?

I say any method except bait.

Randall.

Yep, I'm in.  Paddle or pedal power only though.  That'll give it a level playing field.  Digi pic on a truth mat should do it.

Yep $30 entry fee would be fine and even thro I only live 15min from the dam I still love camping there so 2 days with a camp sounds great, maybe we could do a sweetwater fishing clinic say Saturday Morning and kick the comp off after lunch, I'll never to old to learn some new idea's or check out the latest fishing lures/gear

I would be in and there would be a heap of guys in the Kayak Fishing Club that we have just started would enter also.

As others have said I reckon Lure or Fly only, catch and release.

An overnighter would be great but to get things rolling a 1 day comp would be sweet Smiley

Yep

Im in

A donation / entry fee money to the stocking group good by me

Over nighter or one day doesnt worry me

Agree with Randall and artificial only no bait, pedal paddle only. Catch and snap.

Lawrence's idea of a mini clinic would be cool as well

Thanks for getting the ball rolling Fitz

What sort of number do you think we would need?

Probably not worth the effort for less than 20, however 40 or 50 would be great IMHO

Spoke with the Caretaker at the camping area today, he thinks its a good idea, however I will follow up with management if we get enough hands up here. The stocking group will support it I'm sure (Aussiebasser & I make up half the executive  OK  )

What do people think of 2 divisions perhaps?
1- Peddle/Paddle Kayak / Canoe
2- Electric motor powered Kayak / Canoe

Catch, Photo on truth mat & Release.

You thoughts on the system. How would you like it to be based on?
 - Biggest fish?
 - Most Fish? ie overall longest total catch
 - Biggest 2 bass?
 - Widest variety of species. Biggest total length of 1 bass, + 1 silver + 1 forky + 1 yella + spangly? (I'd like to see someone get that!)
 - Secret length?

Please offer your feedback & offer other suggestions folks... I'm taking notes.....  Cool

Cheers,

Fitzy..

I don't see the need for two divisions, I can't see motorised yaks/canoes catching more fish just because they have motors. I can go anywhere they can go.

The combined comp is a good idea althought I have never caught a silver in there or a spangled perch.

I'm excited, Steven M has put a post up on our Club forum so there will be more interest for sure. Prizes are good but recognition of the fact you can catch great fish from a Kayak would be enough for me.

What time frame are you thinking? Would be good to get a date out there so we can get genuine interest and lock some people in. Some of the guys on our forum need notice.

Looking forward to it, can only be good for your forum and kayak fishing in general.

Love the concept....... Smiley

Hi MacFish,

Thanks for the feedback.

Trophy for winners you recon??

What if I can pick up a kayak sponsor? Given as first prize, or as a random entry prize.

I'm thinking September.... Will give me time to organise + time to get thru the boat show season (I have to work) but also the bass still should be in winter mode.

Cheers,

Fitz..

I agree with Macfish, no need to for two divisions, as for the comp I think as this is a first lets keep it simple two prizes

1/ Largest Bass caught - photo'd released
2/ Serect lenght any species -photo'd

Prizes could be just gift vouchers for BCF or a tackle shop

We would have to have special ID cards that must be in the photo with the fish, I can print and laminate something to do the trick if need.

Fitzy

September wood be good, if we could get in before the bass electric GF. Any chance it could be done launching out of Hayes Landing though? I ask this as it is a long paddle from Logans to get to the best fishing areas on Big W.

Also might be worth your while advertising it at akff.net or contacting the mods there to generate some interest. Also kfdu.com.au, I'll put a link up on our site eckfc.com and also kayak fishing is a buzz at BFO at the moment.

I like what I hear from Lockyer vouchers from tackle shops or prize packs from sponsors would be the go.

Anyway work the date, we have a meeting coming up this month at the end of May it would be good to go to it with a date so we can forward plan our calendar and get our guys to turn up.

Cheers

OK, Saturday September 20 is penciled in for the date.

If we run out of Logans Inlet, we may go to a 2 day event. If its at Hayes Landing it will be a one day event as there is no camping permitted. Will finalise details as they come to hand.

Draft Concept

1- Open to Kayak / Canoe craft.

2- Peddle / Paddle or Electric powered craft only.

3- Catch, Photo on mat & release.

4- Photos must have the entry card clearly in the shot. (Cards will be provided)

5- Photos must be on digital camera with capacity for multi-media card output so we can download photos via card reader.

6- Fish must be caught on lure or fly only.

Bass only or multi-species folks?

G'Day Steven,

Comment noted. In the short term I will be leaving info up here until all details are in place. Feel free to invite your friends along here for any input / comments. Then will send the info out to other websites & see if I can't get a couple of mags/newspapers to support it.

Cheers,

Fitzy..
