Title: taking the kids to sommerset dam. help required
Post by: lifestyle on June 28, 2011, 06:12:56 PM
How are we all ?  I am after some advice on fishing sommerset at the moment.  I will be taking my 7 year old and 5 year old boys to the dam on maybe friday.  i would like some help on where to fish and what bait.  Casting lures from the boat not an option as i dont want to get hooked .  Jigging in the deep water with lures may be an option.  will be taking some red claw pots to break up the day.  Any help would be great. I have a sip and boating permit. Thanks for any advice.. :youbeauty

Unless your kids are well versed at fishing, (Ie experienced lure chuckers) probably the best option to get them on to a fish is dangle some live shrimp if you can get hold of some.

Trolling deep diving lures between Queen Street and Pelican Point has always worked for me.  Perfect for the kids too.

Thanks fellas for the tips.. Might try some deeper water jigging .. That will keep them busy for an hour or so..   What do you think ?

Always worth a shot with tailspinners, ice jigs, slugs, spoons or single spinnerbaits.
