Back on the Local...
« on: September 17, 2010, 08:31:47 PM »
Headed for one of the local spots to see how the Bass were settling back in to their old snags.
Plan was made with Leigh (Loomis) to head up to the last pool before the weir.
Launched at 6’ish since I found it very hard to get up as usual. Think I’m still getting over last weekend’s Convention. I can feel every km tonight that we paddled!!!All 16 odd km’s!!! ::)
Tied on an every faithful Sammy in Bumblebee pattern and a cicada on the other rod.
Worked our way up through the pools but found very little surface activity. Actually it was non- existent!!! Various jitterbugs, Sammy’s, Masseys and the every reliable Siglet were tied on with no luck. I managed one small fish on the way up and a swipe was had at the Siglet. :o
Thanks Leigh for giving me some of your home made lures. It was a great feeling for me to catch a fish on one. They look fantastic mate and I take my hat off to you for having the patience to make your own. ;D
Managed to find the odd tree with Leigh reminding me that the Bass weren’t up there. Funny he kept trying to find the Bass in the branches too. Always a laugh and stacks of stirring going on. Shame the Bass weren’t there to play.
Made our way through various small rapids and some deep holes. Think the water will be more enticing in summer!!!Thank god I had popped my thermals on today!!
Found the last pool that we could fish and defiantly no one home.Only the resident carp and one very dumb one that swam straight into Leigh’s net!! He was quickly despatched. ;D
Made the call to turn for home with at least no walking down rapids this time just shoot straight thru. YIPPEE!!!! ;)
Fished with DD Squirrels and suspending diver’s on the way home for not alot of action.
I’m knackered but thanks for another day of laughs mate. Hope that the Bass are more willing participants next time.

Cheers.

Looks like a top spot in the upper reaches...is the tree still there?

Cheers

Yep Sel that tree is still there but you can paddle around the majority of it and just have to wiggle over the main log.Alot easier than last year that's for sure. 8)
Last year had me climbing out of the yak onto the tree then dragging the yak over the log before getting back in and trying not to fall in the drink!! ::)

Cheers.

Thanks for posting up another great report Toni. Looks like great country to explore down your way that's for sure.

A couple of weeks ago I found using sub-surface lures after working top water lures extensively at one snag quite successful, almost instantaniously, however fishing was still pretty tough.

I hope your shoulders recover.

BTW Conratulations on your 3rd place at the convention, well done!

Cheers Dave
