Last fishing trip i saw heaps of mullet jumping out/ poddey mullet feeding on the surface. With days only going to get hotter i thought i mite targert them. I have read few forums about them and have an idea of what i need to do but as this is my first time it will be a trial and error session. I will be fishing from the bank too.
The issues are how do i get bread/cotton balls rubbed with butter to stay on the hook??? elastic mate
2ndly how do i berley up/ attract the mullet without the burley going down the river???
Any advice on bait and ways to attract them would be greatly appreciated,
Cheers BJM.

i would be using long shank hook, small sinker swivel and float , u need fresh white bread press it around hook lik dough , dont use or anything just compacit it down, and for your burly maybe put bread in a srimp trap , or small basket at edge of water , just an idea^

I'd probably have a shot at my gar technique, (not having fished for mullet before).
I use No 12 hooks, about 6 inches under afloat, toss the bread upstream and keep your bait in amongst it as it floats down stream. When you run out of room to go downstream any more, go back upstream and toss in some more bread. If no flow even better.
Dont know about mullet, but sweetening the hook with a tiny bit of cooked prawn as well as the bread improves the catch rate for gar.
You get a mullet to take the hook, hold on, they go hard.

cooked prawns aye!! I haven't heard of that before. Do you know of any tricks to keep the bread on the hook???

surprisingly enough, as long as its fresh bread, it will stay on the hook for quite a while. Need to keep it from drying out in the bag, then just squeeze it around the hook as your fishing and it will stay on for 5 minutes easy.. Let it dry out before squeezing it on to the hook and it will fall off pretty quick

i would even try a lure , throw all ur burrly out so u get a school feeding at the surface , and then run ur lure throgh them , i got 2 like that on week , a proper hit .
