Brisbane River Report Card 2012
« on: October 26, 2012, 07:55:16 PM »
For those interested http://www.health-e-waterways.org/reportcard/2012/catchment/Bremer%20Catchment

This is the first time they have tried to identify the species of fish in the different catchments; I think they have missed a few.

Thanks mate.

I take healthy waterways report cards with a grain of salt these days. It appears to me that report cards may be up for sale now that they're subbying their services out to various bodies. Not likely to give the bill payer a bad report card.....

Agree Fitz, hopefully it will end up like the old flood levels set by BCC.
But in saying that it is a fairly detailed report and without a doubt the bremer has recovered extremely well from the flood, in some areas its the best I have ever seen it.

The Courier Mail had an article about this report a few days ago.

They had comment from a Uni professor who highlighted the poor state of the middle brisbane( Wivy to mt Crosby) , saying that the muddying of this reach is caused by vegetation removal I.e. cattle grazing to the waters edge. Significant as this is brisbane's water supply.

Suggested a program of replanting and fencing to stabilize and regenerate the banks. Mmmmmmm......blind Freddy could of told them that!!

I read that article Dave, it may seem common sense to us, but anything that points it out to the general population can only be a good thing.

Cheers Andrew
