Title: Rigging Zman Swimmerz
Post by: Paul Dolan on November 06, 2010, 11:06:59 AM
Just thought I'd show how I rig the Zman swimmerz on the new Warhead jig heads I mentioned in another thread.

Firstly lubricate the hook and at the lead keeper with a bit os spit[don't put the lead in your mouth] then insert the hook into the plastic in the center of the front of it for both jig head and worm hook.

With the jig head bring the hook point through and pass it out at the start of the slot just behind the head with the jig head upside down and keep it this way until fully pushed onto the jig head and then spin it the right way up,  with the worm hook for weedless rigging pass the hook point through about 10mm down under the chin of the plastic and push up the hook so it sits in the recess at the front of the hook.

With the jig head style rigging push the plastic up onto the keeper section slowly then pull back slightly and repeat a couple of times until it sits flush against the head.

Lay the hook beside the side of the plastic and put your index  finger on the top of the plastic where it will sit at the bend of the hook when finally rigged and push through.

This is the same with the weedless rigging on both Swimmerz and fogs.

Small O rings come with these jig heads and once rigged you can if you want put on over the hook point and push it down on to the top of the plastic this stops the plastic sliding up the hook,it's not absolutely necessary but it does stop the plastic moving around.

The frog in the pic is a popping frog and can be rigged with weight for longer casting  or without so they float and a 5/0 or 6/0 will suite them the 8/0 for the Swimmerz is too long for the frogs length.

I hope this helps anglers rigging these plastics the elastech can be a bit fiddly but once you get it right they are very easy to rig.
You can if you want pull the plastic back slightly from the jig head and put a small drop of super glue on it so it glues the plastic to the jig head to stop it slipping down the keeper but again not absolutely necessary
I hope all that made sense
Here's the steps of the rigging  I use.

Good info Paul. I prefer the weight under rig....if you can balance out the weight to the natural bouyancy for the zman, it is virtually weedless and sits very pretty on the stall across the bottom.
I`ll be off to BCF this week to see what I can pick up. ;)

Hi Guys,I'm glad you got something out of the post.

Randall the new worm hook is 4 grams which will let the plastic semi suspend/sink very slooowly and will be great around weed beds and snags.

Hey, what's the trick- they melt when they touch other plastics.
Any tips?
Lovely lure.

G/day Johnny, yeh mate you cant mix elastech/cyberflex with other plastics they melt together and make a gooey mess,I've got a box for the Zmans and another couple for the other plastics.
Should catch a lot of fish these lures :youbeauty.

So, just 'keep em separated' hey?!
They are so versatile; another brilliant lure who's capabilities are at the discretion of the user.
Thanks.

Keep those Z mans in their own box  :thumbsup

same goes with Jackall mask vibes , Trans-ams and even the flexible tails on certain HB lures (Lucky craft real California's -  ES Drives & Flats)  -    Apparently there is a reaction between the catalyst used in certain elastomers. you can very quickly ruin some pretty expensive lures and plastics
:thumbdown ... plenty of fishoes chuck their used lures on their console or in a tray during the course of a days fishing ...... that can be enough to ruin them

I had some SP's wrapped and bowned together with a rubber band to keep them separated from some hard bodies and the rubber band just melted leaving it's impression into the SP's.

Some great advice shared there, thanks folks.  :thumb

Also check your tackle trays/boxes are "worm proof". Still some cheepies kicking around that react nicely with certain soft plastics.

fitz..

Anyone know if it is worth using the Hooks that come with these swimmerz.  They look a little funny and maybe a bit of a gimmic !

Cheers

I usually swim all lures out of the packet to see what the manufacturer actually developed in accordance to balance, weight etc, but this time the original hook has become an ash tray souvenir.

My daughter thought they made cool Holloween earrings  ;)

Chris,
That says enough, for basic hook requirements for barra.
