:-\ I could be totally wrong, but I think it might actually be a Rob Gaden made scorpion, The eye colour seems wrong for Peters work, and there isn't enough tuck in the belly. I'll throw it past some better versed people and ask the question Steve.

after some discussion, we think that it is a Peter Newell made Scorpion, and probably painted by Brett Campbell who was one of Peter's many fishing mates & helpers and a great lure maker in his own right.
The Green Eyes with Black pupil can be found on several Campbell lure over the years. This would also explain why there is no P Newell signature on the lure, although Peter didn't sign every lure he made anyway.
The popular opinion is that it is highly collectible and should be retired from tackle box duty :youbeauty
