WTB 10ft Punt
« on: January 26, 2012, 10:55:27 AM »
Looking for a 10ft punt. If you have one lying around and your not using it then send me a PM. Doesn't have to be pretty in fact prefer if it's not. It's just got to float. Small motor I might consider but have an electric to go on it.

Thanks but I should have mentioned I don't need a trailer either. Gonna whack it on top of my box trailer. I can buy a new Clitrex 10ft John punt for under a grand.

Ebay can be good for likely prospects for an electric, particularly rough looking ones. Any reason only a 10 footer? that battery and motor would run a 12 footer no worries and be a bit more comfortable, particularly if you want to take a deckie at any stage.

But first thing you should do is ring up your local dealer and see what a bare 10 fioot hull will set you back. When I looked a couple of years ago it was around $1000 from memory, just to give you some perspective on what the second hand value should be.

Yep keeping my eye on eBay, gumtree, etc. a 10ft sits on my trailer nicely could go 12ft but would overhang a fair bit. New 10ft Clitrex John Punt is $990 off Trading Post. Going to see AquaMaster around the corner from me tomorrow to see how much they are. Don't really want to spend a grand but when a 10yr old boat is a couple of hundred less then I might as well buy new...

Thats what I reckon to, look for side height and transom depth. the higher the better.

THought I'd drive out and have a look at this. $1400, boat and trailer are easily 15yrs old. The motor looks new and is around a 2-4hp Mercury. Didn't bother to see anyone as it is not quite what I am looking for.

THen i went to Aquamaster but they are closed today.

Yes its at the Thomas's place i thought it was $1400 and thanks i was wondering what the outboard was  :thumbsup

The trailer would appeal to people more than the punt i thought.

Just a tip, a 12 footer will be substantially quicker than a 10 footer.

Really Dale? I would have thought that a bigger boat which would have more hull in contact with the water and more weight would be slower if using the same engine.

Or is it a case of bigger boat equals less hull depth in the water so will get up and go easier.

Thanks for the tip.

Dunno about length making a difference to you Dale, I'd reckon any boat you own would only ever have the last 4 inches of the hull in the water!  :o

I grew up with my father selling tinnies to earn a quid.  A 12' Jon Punt with a 6hp motor is quicker than a 10' Jon Punt with the same 6hp motor.  Water length gives more floatation which means the hull is shallower in the water.
The Clitrex Jap Punts, both 10' and 12' can get pretty scarey on big water.  I got rid of my 12 footer a few years ago after a pretty nasty experience on Big W.  If you want to step up to a boat, I'd suggest investing in nothing smaller than a Clitrex 350 or 370 Traveller.  It's a bit more money for a lot more boat.
