It's time to discover the serenity of Lake Clarendon - SEQWater 24/4/15

Located north-east of Gatton, Lake Clarendon provides water to the Central Lockyer Valley Irrigation Scheme. The community expressed their desire to access the lake for recreation during our recreation review. As a result, for the first time under our management, we have introduced some passive recreational activities at the lake. Paddling and fishing are now permitted, and a walking trail has been established for bird watching.

Paddle craft are able to access the lake via the Lockyer Valley Regional Council picnic area located off Main Green Swamp Road. A gate has been installed to allow visitors to access the lake, with the launching and retrieval of paddle craft available from the shoreline directly in front of the picnic area. Please be considerate of our neighbours and only access the lake from the dedicated area and keep the gate shut when not in use.

Those keen to put a line in will be happy to hear that fishing is now permitted from paddle craft, as well as from the shoreline of the paddle craft launching area. The lake is not currently stocked with fish, and no fishing permit is required. Lake Clarendon is an irrigation dam and provides water for agricultural purposes, therefore lake levels will fluctuate frequently. Always exercise care when recreating on and around the lake.

Known for its prolific bird life, the area around Lake Clarendon is a wildlife enthusiast's paradise. We have established a walking trail below the dam wall to enable visitors to view the abundant wildlife living in and around the lake. Please respect the tranquillity of the area by not disturbing the wildlife – this is their home after all!

Took the family there for a paddle today. Well done to SEQWater for finally coming good on the commitment to re-establish access to this lake for paddlers / anglers.
SEQWater had "compliance officers" on duty driving around, who called in to check for hoons etc.

The old gate has been replaced by a new gate, which in now open. Nobody seemed to have thought the gate would be better located 50 - 80m closer to the dam wall (but still in the rec area) to save paddlers the extra COD (Carry Or Drag). Wouldn't have cost any different.....  ::)

Anyhow, we circumnavigated the lake in a couple hours of easy paddling , its quite pretty with lots of structure up the back. Plenty of birds observed. Will post some pictures for members in the next day or so.

Cheers,
