Title: having kittens bass fishing
Post by: bushwacker on February 06, 2012, 05:39:41 PM
Went out with my brother today to chase some bass and bass we caught . stopped counting after 12. Walking down the middle of the creek was a must in the heat and seeing a good snag with an eddy i told my brother to throw a lure in there he was reluctant so i threw a black chrome bassman spinnerbait in got smashed by a fair bass but no hook up ... OK tried again and hooked him but hang on bass arent green and yellow ... ? "expletives" Its a cod ! i was wrapped even tho he was mearly 30cm i couldnt stop smiling.

We continued on down stream picking up bass after bass only rats but still bass when i cast along a snag i see a dirty big mouth come out and smack my spinnerbait and watched in aww as the fish turned broadside to me in disbelief i threw back expecting these skitzo bass to grab it but another cod got it first ! I couldnt belive it ! this fulla must have been high 40's early 50's and left the net and lip grips behiend gahh! I told my brother to just wet his hands and comfort lift it but instead he wet his shirt and did the comfort lift so i itook a quick snap and swam it back to life to watch it cruise away happily.

I was having a hard time standing after i had never caught a cod to catching 2 in 15min. I had to go for a swim to cool off it was too much for me to take in haha.

Mary river  cod we had no intention of targeting both let go to frolic.

Good work there mate, that water looks pretty clean considering all the rain we've had. You don't suppose they were Eastern Cod by any chance? I assume you were fishing on the Eastern side of the ranges if bass were the target?

That's awesome Steve what a buzz. I too was intrigued by the clarity of the water gezz I'd wish it was like that up here. Pat.

Nah there marys the only type that where put in around the series of rivers and creeks here by lafma. Yes the water was very clear the bass could be seen charging in after lures like rockets it was a tad bizzare.  The main rivers are still flowing pretty hard but the upper creeks arent too bad now.
