Title: Rules for Angler Access around Poppy Crops

Rules for Angler Access around Poppy Crops

Poppy crops are strictly enforced licenced areas. Anglers may walk around the perimeter of crops but must not enter into or interfere with poppy crops.

The Inland Fisheries Service would like to thank those anglers who have made recent inquiries about the rules regarding access to rivers adjacent to poppy crops. Their uncertainty is justified where Angler Access signs are situated next to "Prohibited Area Keep Out" signs.

In response to these concerns, the Service contacted the Poppy Advisory and Control Board (PACB) to reconfirm anglers’ responsibilities. Their above advice will be added to the access rules contained within all IFS Anglers Access brochures where poppy crops may be encountered, particularly river access on the Leven, Meander and Macquarie rivers.

PACB Field Officers have a long history of successfully managing angler interaction close to poppy crops at popular fishing locations. This will continue as long as anglers observe the access rules.
