This happened Wednesday -

We were fishing the Ord River, having to go the long way round due to closed roads due to the wet.  It's about a 80k one way trip and we didn't see another boat all day, the beauty of fishing a weekday.

We'd pulled a few fish over the day including one metrey dropped at the boat.

On the last run out drain of the day my lure got caught directly below the boat so I pushed the rod into the water (as you do) to try and dislodge the hooks off the timber.  In the end I had the entire rod and my hand up to the elbow in the water trying to dislodge the thing. All normal practice.  Ol' mate next to me decides to drop down the anchor and try and lift the snag, up it comes a metre then it rolls off the anchor.

With the anchor up we had drifted off the mark so we start the motor and idle back up to where the line entered the water, Funnily enough it was in a different spot to where it was a minute ago and moving up current. We followed and when it headed inshore expected to see a big door mat.  The boats momentum takes the boat up close as a bloody big black head emerges.  I urge ol' mate to find reverse quickly ;D

A change of plan as we wanted to have a good look, both of us noticed a fruit bowl sized lump on the beast's side.  I got out of the boat and climbed the bank to give it a bit whilst ol' mate pulled the boat to the side to take a pic when the croc came up.

Now I've played the odd croc in my time and they are a bit of a girly thing. It doesn't take a lot of pressure to move one.  This one however was much bigger and stayed put on the bottom until the line gave out.

We surmised that it was a bit crook (so tolerated the anchor chucking) and took up station directly under the boat to get an easy feed, we were anchored up hard against a mud bank.

Can be a bit lucky at times

For the record, it would have given 3 mtres or more a good nudge
