Title: Lake Somerset recreation update
Post by: Editor on January 02, 2015, 08:57:28 PM
Lake Somerset - swimming area at The Spit remains closed
Date: 2/1/15   - Seqwater

As of Friday 2 January 2015, the swimming area at The Spit recreation area is temporarily closed due to blue-green algae.

The swimming area at the Lake Somerset Holiday Park (off Kirkleagh Road) remains open.

Lake Somerset remains open to paddle craft and boating, including water skiing, jet skiing and fishing.

The temporary closure at The Spit has been made in the interests of public safety. Recent water quality results indicate there is a high level of blue-green algae at the swimming area. For more information, please read our blue-green algae fact sheet .

Signage has been erected to advise visitors of the closure.

Seqwater will continue to monitor the water quality in Lake Somerset, and will provide updates as conditions change.

That makes sense now.

The family and I went swimming there on New Year's Day and my son and I ended up with a mild rash. The water was quite warm too.
