Title: Brisbane River (Heart attack hill/Shines rd)
Post by: Novice on April 10, 2015, 09:27:10 PM
Its been a while since I have taken the yak out or even picked up a fishing rod. Its been even longer since I have bothered to fish at the end of my street.

This arvo I decided to take the yak for a stroll down the street and have a flick.

Luckily I had a C-Tug trolley (I won it from a random draw at the Wivenhoe Kayak comp a few years back).
Its only a short walk to the river.

At the end of the street, looks like the council has mowed/cleared a fair chunk of the road corridor.

The usual amount of rubbish left by the visiting fishos, not the worst that I have seen it overs the years though. I will get back down there in the next few days and clean it up a bit.

Plenty of parking space down here now.

Before the decent down the track to the river, I stowed the C-Tug away in the rear hatch.

The river was looking good, and clear.

Finally some regrowth of native trees along the track near the washout beside the big gum. There has been very little since January2011.

Nice sandstone shelf for launching off.

Once on the water I slowly made my way upstream.

And the Bass still eat spinnerbaits.

A new sign I haven't seen down here before. Looks like some local has taken it upon themselves to roll out the welcome mat to the white bucket brigade.

Its all bluff though. The Shines rd reserve goes all the way up to the upstream side of the Lockyer junction. The gum the sign is on is just below the junction.

In the junction there was fun to be had with Tilapia on tiny torpedos.

Even little Bass like a poofterdore........Jackal lures have some of the worst lure names. :o

Off the water at dark. No mozzie repellent and they were getting bad.

Thanks for reading.

Cheers,
Dave.

At least you had some luck with the bass Dave. I was there this morning for a couple hours and only managed 1 tilapia right at the junction. The bass were very quiet. In fact, it's been a while since I've managed any more than the rare rat bass right along that whole stretch.  :(

It might be a time of day thing.

I have fished down there another couple of times this week, basically for the hour each side of sunset has been when most of the hits occur.

Got them on OSP Bent minnows,

Its been a fun few sessions. I'm working my way through some lures that I bought and never used.

Nice stuff. Looks like those lures might get a bit more use! A few arvo sessions might be in order I think. How were the mozzies as the sun went down?

Bearable if you remember to take the repellent.

I need to give Bushwacker's Running Creek lures a run, bought a few but never used.... :popcorn)

Are you getting any Yellas Dave?

Nope. All bass and tillys. Only the one cat off the surface so far in 3 sessions.

Btw, I'm on Alison's iPad, cbf to change her login.

Cheers,
Dave.

It's taken about 4 years for the fishing to get to how it was before the big influx of fish in January 2011.
