yak fishing at somerset

hi everyone was wondering if anybody can give me any info on the best place to launch my yak at somerset dam and anything on if they are on the bite.I am up from nsw and have been having a ball in the rivers,Any info would be great thank you

Kirkleagh or the Spit are the main launch points for Somerset. Just watch the weather this time of year. Its not a dam to be on if an afternoon storm comes rolling through. The range can hide any storms rolling in from the west until they are almost on you.

With the number of boats and Jetskis there during the warmer weather I wouldn't recommend kayaking from either the Spit or Kirkleigh.  Wivenhoe is a much better destination for a yakker.

You can launch from the road right next to the lake near Villenueve Bridge. Not an endorsed access point, but there seems to be little done about half the workers at Kilcoy Abattoir fishing there every day. Can probably back a boat in if you've got a 4x4 & the lake is full.
