Title: River style vs Dam/ Lake Style. Help appreciated!
Post by: NavidsonRecord on February 24, 2013, 01:54:12 PM
Hi Guys,

I have fished only rivers over the last few years and can usually catch enough Bass to satisfy my fishing craving. However I don't have much lake experience and I have plans to be visiting Ewen Maddock this weekend coming. The few visits to lakes (Wivenhoe and Somerset) have produced donuts and I don't know if I'm doing it wrong... I have read on the forums all about Ewen maddock but am yet to see any map info on where to start looking and wheat style of lure would work in different situations... I would love to catch some Toga as I'm yet to catch one. I don't have a sounder yet but in rivers I have never needed one, I just cast to structure and usually have great results.

If you don't want to share your EMD secret spots with the world I understand, but please PM me as I don't live anywhere near it so it will be once in a blue moon that I visit.

Thanks everyone.

Not a lot of difference for me, I dont fish for schools in the middle of the dams, I work the edges, drop offs and the structure with lures, same as you would a river.
In shallow dams like Ewen Maddock you can work the edges of the old stream beds for some success as well, but not without a sounder!

If you do farcebook, look at the Ewen Maddock Stocking group page, the younger fella's are always sorting trips using it, I'm sure they would welcome you to tag along and show you the ropes..

GPS still had the track in it from the last trip to the dam (fortnight ago now). Way points show where we caught fish.
