These pictures are from the section below O'reilys Weir . Lockyer Creek is currently flowing quite well and clear .

Nice pics David. I pulled a bass from next to that log in the 2nd last pic a couple of days ago....
How many million tilapia are in that creek? I lost count after taking off my shoes.

Once Bass closed season comes along , I think thats where I will go to learn some skills in catching Tilapia .
Did you happen to see the dead Tilapia floating out of the creek? Seen plenty of late . The birds of prey have been scarfing themselves on them.
I didn't get any Bass on that log , got rats around some of the others though.

I recon we saw 20 odd Wedge-Tailed Eagles & Ospreys working the creek.
Went to the weir late this arvo, there must have been 20 people fishing in that hopeless fish ladder & hole under the weir. Saw alot of tilapia and banded grunter being caught, killed & tossed to the birds....

I broke my rod just near that log in the second last photo, and Fitzy's anchor is solidly attached to something on the bottom near that log in the second last photo. I don't like that log in the second last photo.

It is a costly creek to paddle . Blown more than $100 on lures in there , not just from poor casting either .

Went for a paddle this afternoon on Lockyer Creek to do some recon for when the weather warms up again. I decided to launch from O'reillys Weir just out of Lowood . This weir is accessed by going all the way to the end of O'reillys weir Road. Then by turning left up the dirt track .

About 300 metres along this track you can't miss the weir .

Parking is not a problem on this side of the weir , launching a canoe or kayak is somewhat tricky . After a little portage from the car to the creek bank , one finds the bank very soft under foot and the water's depth increased very quickly . Heres a pic of where I managed to launch right next to the weir itself.

I then proceeded to paddle up the creek as far as I could be bothered , which ended up being Pointings bridge at Patrick Estate. Here's a few pics of the scenery along the way .

Here at Pointings Bridge , it would be much easier to launch from. But the downside is parking along the road up top. Here's the view from both sides.

Upstream of this bridge , there looks like there is plenty of navigatable water.

I turned around here , I reckon its at least 3-4kms to paddle back . I saw plenty of flood debris in the trees from 2011's flood , but this canoe took the cake.

Once back at the weir , I checked out the so called fish way. Any fish would be buggered by the time it got to the top!

The water temperature at present was very cold ( they had a bit of a frost this morning ) and I didn't get any takes on the lures .

then down roseborough rd prob easier to launch

use to catch mullet on weed scraped from the sides of the wall at that weir on a three hook rig under a float about 35 years ago, did get bass in a small feeder creek of the lockyer chasing spangles on little lures i made back in the eighties would have to be fingerlings released as wild bass just were very scarce back then,pearcey

Some pictures from Lockyer Creek from Pointings Bridge and upstream. The big flood of 2011 has made this creek very deep in places with some awesome looking sunken timber . I hope the rocket scientists at DERM don't destroy this part of the creek like they have in places further upstream under the banner of 'Flood Recovery' . The water level here is determined by the level of O'reilys Weir , as it backs up the creek a lot further than I could be bothered paddling. ;D

Any cod in that creek are totally protected Joseph.

Of course I should have known that . Only in stocked impounds and certain places you can target cod in south east Queensland. Wish I could catch one in wivenhoe . Would probably let it go after photo.

Looking through this thread, the old Lockyer creek has changed plenty. Ex TC Oswald in 2013 probably did the most 'renovating' to the creek but even in the last few weeks its had a bit of a change.

The creek is just down to a trickle now and the water is cold, when it hits the Brisbane junction the warmer clean Wivenhoe water is on top.
