Fishing the Amazon?
« on: April 18, 2013, 08:03:05 AM »
Mel and I (and her dad) are heading to Brazil for 3 weeks in June/July and have some time set aside to chase some fish somewhere in the Amazon! We've got our flights booked to Manaus but haven't planned anything while there.

I realise it's a long shot but has anyone fished there before and know any good places/guides?

Cheers

Lucky bloke! :)
A mate fished there couple months ago. The Amazon river itself is almost too big to fish. would take days/weeks to suss it out.
He fished some tributaries and caught Peacock bass and numerous other species. He went on a fully guided trip.
Try a tackle shop in Manaus and ask some questions re guides /locations etc?
There are lots of tributaries nearby.
Good luck :)
Barney.

Darc, I met some Americans in PNG a few years ago who fish the Amazon every year.  They use these guys: http://www.hookedonadventures.com/
Otherwise Angling Adventures arrange tours as well.  http://www.anglingadventures.com.au/Fishing_Tours/the_amazon_fishing_trip
I hope you have a ball.

Thanks gents!

The fully guided trips look like the way to go. We've looked at a fair few including the ones you suggested Dale and they look pretty good. I like the idea of flying somewhere remote and fishing for a couple of days in the middle of nowhere.

Ok Fitz you're in!
