Fishing Report - 29th April, 2011

COOBY DAM
At Cooby Dam there has been a few Jew, Silver Perch and Yellowbelly on bait and lures, with the best bait being, live shrimp, live worms and saltwater yabbies.

CRESSBROOK DAM
Fishing hasen’t been too bad, with a few Bass caught on the edges, mainly on the points and bays in the dam, also a few Bass showing up in schools in the deeper water and still plenty of Redclaw about.

SOMERSET DAM
There have been a few Bass and Yellowbelly caught in the deep through the Bay13 and Queen Street area trawling and casting lures, it’s also worth a try around Pelican Point and the Spit. There are still plenty of Redclaw throughout the dam.

BOONDOOMA DAM
There has been a small inflow into the dam which has dirtied the water slightly in the Boyne and Stuart arms of the dam, which means the fishing has slowed again. There are still good numbers of Redclaw throughout the dam.

BJELKE PETERSON DAM
The back reaches of the dam are still the pick of the spots, with a few Yellowbelly and Bass up to 45cm taken in these areas mainly on live shrimp, but it is still worth a try on the flats and points in the main part of the dam. It is also worth a try with Spinnerbaits in the back reaches. The Redclaw numbers have increased over the past week.

LESLIE DAM
Leslie Dam had about 1500 people camping there over the Eater weekend and there was still plenty of nice Yellowbelly landed around the 40cm mark, with a few bigger fish in amongst them. There was also a few Cod around 60cm, as well with some quality fish landed around the 20 to 30lb mark.




COOLMUNDA DAM

A few nice Yellowbelly have been caught in the dam itself, but below the dam has fished really well with some quality Yellowbelly and Cod taken over the long weekend.

TEXAS
The Dumeresque River up and downstream of Texas fished well over the Easter break with some quality Cod taken, as well as quite a few Jewies on both bait and lures.

GOONDIWINDI
The Mcintyre River has produced some nice Yellowbelly around the town reaches trawling lures and using bait, with the biggest fish being 60cm, there have also been a few Yellowbelly and undersize Cod caught above the Boggabilla Weir.

GLENLYON DAM
Eater saw Glenlyon’s camping areas full to the brim with plenty of Yellowbelly, Silver Perch and Jew being caught on lures and bait. a large number of these were only just legal, so remember, 30cm is the minimum length for Yellowbelly. The Cod fishing has slowed a bit this week, but there were a few undersize Cod caught and released, again a reminder that the minimum length for Murray Cod is 60cm.

CALOUNDRA
Offshore, the closer reefs have produced some quality Snapper, Sweetlip and Coral Trout for the bottom bashers, and there has also been good catches of Spaniards and Cobia trawling live baits. Inshore there have been some Bream and Golden Trevelly at the top of the tide, around the Boardwalk, Flatties at the bar entrance, School Jew between Moffats and Currumundi Beaches, and plenty of Prawns throughout the passage.

MAROOCHYDORE
A few Spanish and Spotty Mackerel and Coral Trout offshore, inshore has been very quiet due to substantial amounts of rain, which have made the river and creek systems very dirty.

NOOSA
Offshore fishing has produced Spanish Mackerel on trawled lures at Chardons Reef, some quality Coral Trout at Sunshine Reef and a mixed bag of reef fish at the Jew Shoal. Inshore there are still good numbers of Jacks, Taylor and Trevelly being landed at Noosa Sound and the Woods Bay area, Bream, Whiting and Flathead throughout the river, and some nice Taylor and Whiting off the beaches.

TWEED
Offshore, Pearl Perch and Snapper at the 24’s and 36’s and Spotty Mackerel at Black Rock. Inshore, Whiting throughout the river, particularly around the Anchorage, Trevelly and Taylor in the mouth, and it’s worth a try around the middle reaches for Muddies.

SOUTHPORT
Offshore, at 18 fathoms Spanish Mackerell, Wahoo and Tuna on live bait and trawling deep diving lures at about 6 knots, quality Snapper on soft plastics at 18 and 24 fathoms and some nice Pearl Perch at 50 fathoms. Inshore, in the Seaway, Taylor on poppers and G.T’s off the rock walls, Whiting, Bream and Flathead throughout the Broadwater and off the beaches, some nice Bass in Robina Lakes, and the mouth of the Pimpama River has produced some good catches of Mudcrabs.
