smacking some pests

After the daycare run I headed down to Forest Lake to see if I could get a few pests out.  Weed was too thick in my usual spots so had a wander and found some spots to sight cast to Tilapia. They were difficult to find with the dirty water. polarised filter on the lens, still hard to see in this picture.



Got a few.



 Also a first for me was to find and catch Synspillum. 



There is quite a population this year. I have previously heard about them being there but this is the first time I actually found any.

Rig?...float ...worms

the tilapia rig is a float with a hook suspended at about 8 inches. Cast past sunning fish and slowly work the float back without disturbing the fish until the worm is in its face.  Even if not in the mood, a red wriggler will eventually get sucked in and eaten.

Synspillum unweighted hook cast straight at fish sitting on the bottom, they were difinitely in a feeding active mood.

Do you carry a garbage bag or bin around with you Tom?

Doin a great job, keep it up.

Euthanize then double bag them and bin them. I would rather take them home and freeze them until bin day but with tilapia law says I have to stink the council bins out in the park.

Good report, I too would like to do my share of taking tilapia out.

Is there any place where this can be achieved from landbase or does one need a boat / kayak?

There are no tilapia around Allora &/or Warwick. These are in the Murray Darling catchment & as yet, no moron has moved tilapia west of the Great Dividing Range. But I'm sure some halfwit will do eventually..........
