Fishing Lake Kurwongbah
« on: September 21, 2014, 02:40:46 PM »
Well I've got to say that Lake Kurwongbah is one healthy fishery & thank god they've opened it up to paddle craft.
It has now been opened up to us for a couple of weeks now & I've been out on the water there twice....the last 2 Saturdays to be precise.
First trip out saw me exploring & casting "Spinnerbaits" & for my efforts of 3 hours....4 big Bass came to the kayak.
Second trip out went to same spots with my "Spinnerbaits" plenty of solid hits, but no hook ups in 2 hours. Decided to put a "hard bodied deep diver" on & go on the troll....over the next 2 hours I hit double figures for the first time in my life. Yep...that's right, 10 Bass of varying sizes came to the kayak.
This place is like "Bass Heaven"....even with the number of kayaks out on the water pegging lures....she's firing.
Added to this...this lake is only 10 minutes from home.  :youbeauty

Got 15 on the troll there this morning with hard bodies. There are certainly a lot on fish in there. Judging by the amount of yaks out there, the word is certainly out too. It'll be interesting to see how long the hot bite lasts. I must say however, that the lake isn't as picturesque as many others I've fished. Pales into insignificance next to the beauty of maroon for mine.

Kind of mission accomplished from my presective. This is pretty much what I had in mind when I was putting the management plan together. My son Darcy actually released the first bass in there; the first 500 were donated by Sweetwater Fishing. And I let the first Saratoga go in there.

I'm stoked that people are catching fish & kayak / canoes are allowed on there.

We played the fizz/wave/noise boats well on this "Field Of Dreams".... anglers are the winners.  :youbeauty

Good on ya Fitzy .... there are a lot of anglers who owe you, and a select few like you, a big thanks.

Shayne certainly put a hell of a lot of effort in driving the PRFMA and local pollys, local counciller David Dwyer still a strong supporter.
Bring on the SIP so more fish can be stocked.
 Cheers
Ray

Funny how the PRFMA guys don't like to acknowledge Fitzy's input.

It was not a one man band there were also a lot of others not only prfma members , Fitzy has already been acknowledged in the thread  but you must admit it was the stocking assn that did the hard yards and it possibly would not have happened without Shayne who did all the lobbying.
Cheers

Yes a lot of people, Shayne did the paperwork dealing with 3 levels of government........... remember the first time stocking Kurwongbah was discussed Ray ? before Shayne joined.

Absolutely, Shane did a great job on getting a very good chunk of fed funding to move the program forward in a shorter period.  :thumb

And good on the PRFMA Exec (at the time) for deciding to take on Kurwongbah, there would have been a new group formed to stock it otherwise.  :thumbsup
