Title: Jordans Weir near Gatton
Post by: Freshwater Newby77 on October 13, 2014, 05:34:55 PM
Gidday all.
So in the process of trying to find somewhere decent to fish within a 45 min drive,my next door neighbour has told me that lots of people fish Jordans Weir, which is Lockyer Creek, off Gatton-Esk Rd,into Jordans Weir Rd,just a km from Warrego Hwy end of Gatton Esk Rd.
Has anyone fished this place,as I went down the road today, and came across a closed gate.
Cheers,Marty.

Here's a video showing Jordan's Weir.

The powers that be decided to put a gate on the public road going in there & keep the world out, a shame.  C:-) C:-) C:-)
There's other access points & reserves along the Lockyer Creek you can access the water, including the bridge directly downstream of the weir.

Fishing wise? I never fished it, only ever went kayaking there. But I would guess there's at least Spangled Perch, Eels & Tandans there. Not sure about any fish restocking of native fish above that weir....Try getting hold of the local stocking group & they may give you some info, if it's not too top secret.  :-\

I too have wondered if any stocking has  taken place in lochyer creek.  My partner only lives 100m from the weir near Grantham.  Think she said the have only ever caught Jew in there.  Nice looking water but.  Some good shrimp in other creeks in the area I know.  Lake dyer supposedly fishes alright at times out that  way.

The only sign on the gate says "Please shut the gate", so is it still legal to go in there, and they've just made it difficult I wonder.I might flick the council an email.
Re-next bridge downstream. That would be Gatton-Esk rd bridge,I may be mistaken, but I go over it every day,and there's no access there that I've seen.If there is,its private land that backs on to river .Sorry Fitzy, can you please clarify if that's the bridge you mean,or the one on lake clarendon way? Also,do you know where I would be able to get a map of the access points and rd reserves?
Cheers,Marty.

I talk to a bloke down gatton every couple weekends who is a mad fisherman and he catches some nice fish in dyer mate so keep trying.  Since I  don't have my boat down gatton I might go have a fish off the bank one arvo if quiet on the farm.

If the road crosses the creek, you can access the creek if you stay within the road reserve area, not wandering upstream/downstream....

Maps for what you asked for simply don't exist, you might have some luck with local parish maps, they usually cost around $30 / shire.
I'm thinking of making some for download in a members only area, in fact I've already done some but not made them available yet.

Cheers,

Most bridges on the lockyer around Gatton are to high, banks to steep and overgrown to access the water. I have found one bridge at water level back grantham way which i fished the other week. Dropped this monster of a yella there, and caught a turtle on a hardbody haha, have been told their are bass her also.

NOTE- VIDEO BELOW HAS SWEARING.

Also have been told that they stock bass somewhere around grantham as well.
