useless tip and a question
« on: June 30, 2011, 10:29:57 AM »
Uselss tip for ya. Bloke comes into the shop and buys a blue bait/trap. He came in a couple of days later did the same thing. following week he's back buying..yep more shrimp traps. I said " so what's the go with all the traps mate? Shrimp hard to find? He said "no, the blue bait/shrimp traps are good at attracting Salt water Prawns. Dunno why blue is the go but that's what happens..at times I get about a kilo a day from 5 traps". I'm thinking Huh weird  :o ? So I wonder, has anyone noticed if the blue traps attract more shrimp?  :)

Dunno about blue shrimp traps, but I know a bloke who swears by opera house traps for prawns. reckons he goes fishing for a few hours at night and gets his 10 litres in 4 traps no worries (when they are running). Says you have to check them pretty often though.

Yep. This bloke reckons he checks em every hour. Swears by the blue ones? The prawns have been running all year around here. It's started raining again and if we get enough of it they'll start again. They were getting 70lts in an hour or two off woodgate. The good news is a fair few people got caught by the Fisheries. There were fifty boats out there at one time all getting their quota in no time. Masses of em.

You might want to tell him he's only allowed to have 4 of those traps.

Yep, when you do you find out there's him his dad four brothers and his mother going with him and he's meeting five mates at the water. Same thing when blokes come in saying they caught 150ltrs of prawns. As soon as you mention "possession" they find a lot of mates.  :o  :) As a shop owner what dya say to a bloke who wants to buy 50 crab pots @ $50 a pop...ans" would you like ropes and floats with that mate! LOL

Why not, there is probably 50 opera traps in my shed, with my family I cant use more than 20 at a time, (usually 8 or 12 in use at most, not stupid enough to take all the kids out at once), but they get holed so easy I bulk up on them every time I see them on special.

My old man would have had a hundred or more dillies in his shed when they were legal for the same reason, he would "renet" damaged ones only every 6 months or so. Just grab a new one and chuck the damaged one in the pile.
