Fishing Report - Thursday 24th March, 2011

BOAT RAMP ETIQUETTE
This week I thought I would take the opportunity to talk about boat ramp etiquette, with the dams full again and leading up to easter, the boating activity could be fairly busy. To help everyone get their boat in the water there are a few things we all can do to help. Ensure you have your boat ready to launch, don’t park on the ramp and prepare it, most dams have a rigging area, so try and use these. And move your boat away from the ramp to pack it up when taking it out of the water, and remember to be patient, not everyone can back a boat as good as we all like to think we can.

COOBY DAM
Cooby is still a bit quiet, and is mainly producing Jew and Yellowbelly on bait, with the best bait being, live shrimp, live worms and saltwater yabbies.

CRESSBROOK DAM
With the ordinary weather on the weekend there hasn’t been to many reports, but there have been a few Bass caught on soft plastics around the edges of the dam, and some good catches of Redclaw There has been a small inflow into the dam, so take care as there is some debris about.

LAKE SOMERSET
The dam is still unsettled, but there has been some small catches of Bass caught trolling and casting lures around the Pelican Point area of the dam, and there have been plenty of Redclaw caught throughout the dam.

BOONDOOMA DAM
The fishing is still a bit tough, there have been a few Bass caught on SMAK spinnerbaits right up the back of the Boyne and Stuart arms of the dam. Try spinnerbaits around the points for yellowbelly and there are still plenty plenty of Redclaw being caught, with dog sausage and dry dog food still the best bait.

BJELKE PETERSON DAM
Still quiet, but it’s worth a try with spinnerbaits and Jackalls around the points in the main bay and the back reaches of the dam for Yellowbelly and Bass, and there are still good numbers of Redclaw being caught.

LESLIE DAM
Has quietened a bit, but there are still some nice Yellowbelly being caught on trolled lures, live shrimp and frozen saltwater yabbies off the banks.

TEXAS
The river near town is still a bit quiet, however there have been a few Cod taken upstream of Texas in the Dumeresque River.

COOLMUNDA DAM
A few more Yellowbelly on trolled lures in the dam itself this week, downstream of the dam there was some nice Cod taken on Jackalls, with a couple of nice fish landed in the 20 to 30 pound mark.

GLENLYON DAM
Still plenty of Yellowbelly, Silver Perch and Jew being caught on lures and bait, There have also been some smallish Cod taken, with a nice 75cm fish being the pick of these.

CALOUNDRA
Offshore, there has been some Spanish Mackerell up to 15kg on Currimundi and 12 Mile Reef and also some nice Grassy Sweetlip for the bottom bashers. Inshore there have been some Bream and Flathead around the Boardwalk area, a few Trevelly and Jacks around the canals of Pelican Waters, and some nice Muddies in the passage.

MAROOCHYDORE
Offshore some Spotty and Spanish Mackeral are still being caught, and there have been some good catches of Sweetlip around Old Woman Island. There has been some quality Dart up to 40cm taken off the beaches, Flathead and Mangrove Jack in the river and some nice Whiting around the Picnic Point area.

NOOSA

Offshore has produced some good catches of Spanish Mackerell at Chardons Reef, as well as Coral Trout on Sunshine Reef. The inshore fishing is still producing some good catches of Mangrove Jack, Taylor and Trevelly in Woods Bay and the mouth of the Noosa River, Flathead and Bream throughout, as well as whiting and flathead in Weyva Creek.

TWEED
Offshore, Spanish Mackerell at 9 Mile Reef, Wahoo and quality Squire at 30 fathoms are on the bite, Mangrove Jacks around the bridges and rocky points, a few Flathead and Trevelly in the creeks and river. Also try the beaches at Hastings and Cabarita for Dart.

SOUTHPORT
Offshore fishing this week has still produced a few Spotty and Spanish Mackerell off Southport, The Gravel Patch, Mermaid and Palm Beach. Inshore heaps of Trevelly and some Jew in the Seaway on lures and pilchards, Bream and Flathead at Wavebreak Island, Trvelly and Jacks in the mariner and muddies in the creeks.
