Sooty (&JP) Fishing with Baz - 30yrs ago 1982
« on: February 28, 2012, 10:37:39 AM »
I recently got some old slides digitised so I could pass the images on to family and friends of the late Barrie Stark (Blackwater Tackle Wombah) who's passing I reported in this forum a month or so ago.  I thought the images needed sharing with you Sweetwater mob as well.  They mainly come from the Burdekin River upstream of Charters Towers (Lynd Hiway U/S of the Fletchers Ck Junction) - as bout as beaut sweetwater fishing you can get - wading crystal clear water over shallow sand beds casting lures to schools of thumping Sooties in deep gutters adjacent river bends - check the place out if you want to get spoilt - a canoe works fine there too but you'll need to drag it for bits - the banks are very walkable couch grass lawn, but there's no shortage of pigs..  Barra also now show up in some of these reaches due to local stocking efforts (not natural this far up the river) - which could blow out your light spinning tackle best suited to the sooties - oh yeah Yellow Belly breeding in there too now - so chuck a few spinner baits !

Great pics.  Barrie was using the best gear too.  Nice Abu Cardinal.

Geez, I've got to read a bit slower.....  ::) Great pictures Jim  :tick . I never used Ektachrome, assuming it's tranny film. Mounted?

Who / how did you convert them to digital format? I had a pretty good scanner with a tranny / negative scanner in it. After scanning a couple of thousand slides from the tubs & tubs worth I'd acumulated, I burnt it out. I cracked it at that stage & binned the remaining tubs of slides along with the fried scanner. Was a tedious process.

Vintage stuff Jim, I especially liked the King Gee waders. Makes you wonder if we'll ever get those days back. 1982 really isn't all that far back from my view point.
