Good or Bad?
« on: August 08, 2011, 09:00:24 PM »
I am having trouble deciding whether or not I had a good days fishing today. Need Help.

Around midday I decided to hit the JP's again as I had a few spare hours up my sleeve. Anyway I made it to a bridge I use as an access point to a small creek which I walk down to get to the main creek which is my chosen fishing location. Anyway I decide to belt a cast down this tributary in order to wet the braid and ge tthe kinks out before I get to the fish. Two pops in and I hook a 30cm plus JP and pull him in-THATS GOOD. 2 seconds later that 30cm plus JP proceeds to bury one of the trebles right into the end of my thumb annd then thrashes around for a good 10seconds before I get him under control-THATS BAD. I manage to get the fish under control and off the hooks and released unharmed and then extrect the treble(which has it's barbs squashed) quite easily from my thumb-THATS GOOD. I hit the main creek, turn upstream and hook into a great little session with JP's and the odd sooty coming in every couple of minutes with the odd 30cm fish mixed in amongst them. About a half hour into the session a smallish but very wiggly JP manages somehow to drive another treble right into my left pointer finger next to the nail  causing me more agonizing pain-THATS BAD. This little fella manages to shake himself off pretty quickly-THATS GOOD- allowing me to remove the hook and get on with enjoying the day. Next step and my shin came into harsh contact with a very hard river rock causing moderate amounts of extreme agony and spasms-THATS BAD. A quick sit down and shin rub and I am ready to move again and one cast later have yet another 30plus fish on the scoreboard-THATS GOOD. Aquick release and another cast and yet another smallish JP jumps on and fights like hell. Just as I am forgetting about the throbbing pain in my fingers this little fella goes about slotting a treble straight into the hole made by the second fish(right next to the nail)-THATS BAD. I get the little fella ooff while trying to deal with the pain by explaining to myselfthat the odd hook in a finger is a type of Karma and is only fair and just and that if this is all I have to put up with then It is not really that bad-THATS GOOD. I then realise that this particular hook on this particular treble on this particular lure just happens to be possibly the only hook on whish I have not squashed the barb and that I am going to have to pull it out of an already throbbing fingers with a pair of rusty pliers-THATS BAD. I then pull it out-THATS REALLY F BAD!!!!

Jeez Brett. Get your butt into Erskine's & get yourself a set of boga or lip grippers or similar & stop thumbing them mate.

That or get a thumb guard or make on from a bit of leather or rubber tube.

Overall, you got out of the house, you got some fish and you survived it. If you go back again, then today was a good day.  :tick

Thanks for the report.  :thanks  Those JP teasers certainly get my keen to go chase some......  :GoodPost)

I've managed one treble in a thumb in 48 years yet you managed three in a session...

You're a bloody legend! :youbeauty

Good onya for sticking it out, made me cringe a bit. Bet the fingers are a bit tender today.

Don't worry Brett, I'll be back up there before too long so I can fall over in the water, bark my knees raw, put my last bubble pop in a tree and catch 20-30 JP's AND have  great day. Dunno about the barbs tho. First thing tomorrow going to check  'em all.
I make you look good!

You did come out of that trip somewhat sore and sorry didn't you John. Will look foreward to not being the only clumsy oaf on the water :thumbsup. As for lip grips. They are just not an option for me. I like to walk the creeks as light as possible most of the time(hence no pics of the carnage as I usually forego the camera). Guess I'll just have to eat a cup of cement to harden up hey aussiebasser ;)

Does your husband fish?  Maybe you should take him with you.

Dale's living up to his reputation again, but no mention yet of Fitzy's flatulence. Have to work that in somewhere mate.

Still reckon it was a GOOD day regardless of the bloodshed on your part as the dreaded donut was avoided. :))

Reckon there's enough hot air coming out of Dale to make up for Fitzy.

It's in the man's nature EG, hot air balooning Daly style. You should try that EP fishing if you get the chance. Brett's got nailed pretty well, and it's one of the more rewarding days I can ever recall; Bloody and guts notwithstanding.

You're right there Paul, that's exactly what it is. I'm getting stocked up on Bubble Pops for the next visit.
