The Inland Fisheries Service wishes to advise anglers that the public health notice regarding blue green algae at Four Springs Lake has been removed by the Meander Valley Council. This comes after recent sampling at three locations in the Lake showed no presence of cynobacteria.

The Service has also been informed by Hydro Tasmania that the levels of cynobacteria initially detected at Woods Lake are much lower and the risk of toxicity is minimal.

Sampling of certain recreational inland waters for toxic blue green algae is an ongoing activity undertaken by government authorities and Hydro Tasmania. Their advice is provided through written advisories which are erected on site where the concerns for public health exist.

At present, no warnings are in place but monitoring of waters such as Four Springs Lagoon and Woods Lake will continue during the summer period. The IFS will keep anglers posted regarding the outcome of monitoring of these and other waters via the website.
