Press Release – Stocking of Fingerlings and Recreational Use of Gordonbrook Dam – 14 June 2011

The South Burnett Regional Council, Fisheries Queensland and the Boondooma Dam Fish Stocking and Management Association Inc. have worked for a number of years to reach agreement on recreational use and the stocking of fingerlings at Gordonbrook Dam. This included the type of boating that is allowed and the opening and closure procedures during various levels of blue green algae outbreaks.
When the dam is open for recreational activities, boating activities will be limited to boats with electric motors only, kayaks and canoes. The maximum speed on the dam will be 6 knots.
The Boondooma Stocking Group has now taken responsibility for stocking Gordonbrook Dam with fingerlings and has received funding from the Stocked Impoundment Permit Scheme (SIP). Funding for 2011/2012 is $4 505.
Gordonbrook Dam possesses potential to be a trophy Australian Bass fishery and attract anglers from a wide area now that the dam is open to boating.
All anglers must have a current SIP Permit. Permits which can be purchased from Bass to Barra Outdoors in Kingaroy, Wondai, Kingaroy Murgon or Nanango Visitor Information Centres or online at www.dpi.qld.gov.au.

Anyone know what sort of launch facilities there are? Might be worth a trip.
