Carpark security/safety
« on: February 12, 2014, 09:31:50 PM »
Has anyone who has fished the upper Brisbane river or Lockyer creek regularly ever had any issues with leaving their car unattended whilst out having a fish?

I have never fished up that area before but was going to give Lockyer creek a try, launching at oriellys weir, and am a little concerned about leaving the car unattended in such a remote location. I know it's always a gamble but when I have fished remote launches I have always had a tense paddle back to the car wondering if someone has decided to help themselves to my car stereo.

Maybe I just need to chill a little and enjoy the peace and quiet on the water.

I've never had a problem. There's always a risk however.

Side awning out on the 4wd, nice comfy rug, big bucket of water, nice long rope, Doberman...  :walkplank

Seriously tho, it's something that worries me as well. I've always wanted to do an early start from the Twin Bridges but haven't been game to leave my 4wd there, there are some nice things on my car I can't hide/remove :|

Never had a problem myself.  My SS ute has been parked at night at Twinnies and Harpeng Road, and it's spent days at Shines Road, Savages Crossing and Burtons Bridge.  It spends nights in Fernvale with the doors unlocked half the time.

I would love to leave the car upstream and do a big one way paddle downstream with a mate to his awaiting vehicle too. I guess a lot of these places are one road in and one road out so there is no alternative escape route for any lowlifes which may help as a bit of a deterrent. Hopefully at 4am most of them are at home nursing a sore head from the alcohol they had the night before rather than looking at getting up to no good.

It might be a different story if it was a Ford....

Nah, Jas, it'd probably be in the workshop mate.  The XR8 Ute I had was a pig of a thing, I'd park it Inala with the keys in it hoping someone would pinch it!

I fish both arms of the hinze a bit through mid week. The western arm carpark gets quite a few visitors through the day as its on a main road but the eastern arm is fairly isolated. This year i have had several notes under my windscreen from Mudgeerbah police promoting lock or lose it and complementing me for having no valuables in sight and car securely locked.
Good to see them out and about.
Bit different from NPD where we can safely leave car unlocked as its in behind heavy gate with abloy lock. Only problem I often have had a wet seat if its rained whilst I am fishing.
Cheers
Ray

Basser, anyone who has seen you at your best would not be game to go near your ute.

The word has probably spread mate.

I often launch at vulnerable ramps around the Mary river Marlborough Qld and fortunately haven't been a victim yet but I take precautions by locking my trailer and have a boogie security camera that I got from Bunning mounted in the car, I always mobilize the car and remove the CB airal and leave nothing that looks tempting in the car for the crooks to bother breaking in, Hope this is helpful.

Mate of mine parked at Koloh near Ipy last weekend and had thousands of dollars damage done to a new 4wd and his mates car also.
