Red alert warnings removed in the lower Darling and Menindee
NSW Water - 9 July 2014

The NSW Office of Water today removed all red alert warnings for toxic blue green
algae for Lakes Wetherell, Tandure and Menindee in the Menindee Lakes system,
the Darling River at Atley and the Great Darling Anabranch in western NSW.
These alerts had been in place since late April, but the levels of potentially toxic
algae have now fallen to negligible levels meaning that the red alerts can be
removed.
Dr Lee Bowling, from the NSW Office of Water, said that sampling in mid-June has
shown that levels have dropped significantly at all of these locations.
“This is not surprising given the cold weather.”
Water users should use personal discretion at all times and avoid any water source
that appears green or has a septic or musty odour.
Suspicious blooms can be reported to the NSW Office of Water on 1800 353 104.
