Title: Hi , First report
Post by: 1tyger on April 24, 2011, 08:43:31 PM
Hi, my name is Jonno and i've just recently started getting into sweet water fishing for bass.  It started  middle of last year when a mate and i got a canoe and started fishing skinny water because the weather was too bad for taking the bigger boat out. After i had caught my first bass on a popper i was hooked.
I've been really busy with work lately and finally got a day off  so i headed off early this morning to try and catch a bass. First cast hit the water just before sun up and i was rewarded with a 350mm bass  :D . I continued walking around exploring and casting  lures everywhere and was happy to catch a few more bass in the high 30's . As i was heading home tried at one last spot and a couple of taps on my 7g wobbler kept me casting at this one spot . Finally my wobbler was hit on a slow twitchy retrieve and and the rod buckled over very quickly. I quickly worked out this was a decent fish when i tried to adjust my drag and found it locked up from the last snag yet the fish was still able to swim away slowly pulling drag. I kept working the fish closer until the fish took cover in a snag and the line got so tight it sounded like a guitar string. After trying what seemed an eternity to free the fish and which included trying to convince my brother to go for a swim and fish it out i just sat there watching my line limp on the surface. All of a sudden the line took off and it was on again. I pulled the fish to the bank and lifted out a very tired bass that read 560mm on the brag mat!. I quickly got the camera out, took a  couple of pics, gave the bass a swim and released him to fight another day.

Bass was caught on a 7g wonder wobbler, 15lb berkly fluro leader and 6lb fireline.

Cheers

Jonno

Crack'in Bass Jonno and a great report, many Bass anglers go a lifetime before catching a fish of that calibre. :youbeauty
