Title: Lake Wivenhoe ( Somerset park/ village )
Post by: Novice on October 09, 2011, 08:15:25 PM
No boat ramps in this part of the Lake , but there are a couple of options for launching kayaks or canoes. You can launch off the bank from Somerset Park ( the camping ground ) , just make sure to leave your vehicle outside the camping grounds .

The other option is to take the little side road near the Catchment Cafe and follow it past the tennis courts .

Launching from here is not as difficult as from somerset park ( the banks are a little steeper in some areas there ).

SEQwater haven't reset the exclusion zone buoy line up near the dam wall , but there is still a sign on a tree on the opposite bank.

On the sides and out in the middle , there are plenty of trees that have been drowned , plenty of structure for the lure casters.

Reports from the Somerset Park manager were of some nice Bass caught earlier in the day , but I could only manage a few little puppies.

Here's my token beverage picture ( enjoy Bushwhacker:) )

Some pictures from this area today (15.8.2012).

I bumped into a SEQwater ranger at the servo/convenience store and he told me about how he had just recently finished a new path to the lake with his bobcat. Originally this new access point was going to be outside of the camping grounds but the manager of the camping grounds twisted his arm for it to be within the camping grounds :o So my thoughts are we can use this new access point without hinderance from the management of the camping grounds as it was intially intended .This path is right next to camping spot number 40 . Anyway heres the pics.

Go in through here.

Craig is a good fella!!! Said he was going to do it a while back, but I'd asked him to do a track at Silverton Creek. Another option for the Wivenhoe Kayak Fishing Convention in a couple of weeks.

I will have a chat to Jeff at the camping ground for best day access solution.

Thanks for the report Dave.

Any fish?

Went there this morning and used the new access. Great...no worries. Beautiful morning. No fish caught though. Thanks to whoever put in the access.
