Spent a couple of days at Moogerah Dam. It was very concerning to see the condition of the bass there on Friday. We landed a few bass that were covered in what appeared to be some kind of paracite infection. Worse still was the couple of dozen dead bass floating on the surface. Reported to authorities. I was surprised to see the temps in 20 metres of water was over 30 deg at 9.30am. With all the waterskiers and swimmers in the dam, I am left wondering what kind of effect the dead bass may have on humans. Remember to give your yak a good clean with some bleach.
Hopefully one of the resident icthyologists on the forum can give you a possible cause.

Thanks for the advice. Now all I need is a bit more bleach and a wire brush to scrape away the itch on my left leg. (^_^)

Fish may be suffering from stress which allows parasites to run rampant. High water temps = low disolved oxygen in the water which can stress fish. This could be the problem.

That would be my guess too as it seems to occur during those conditions.
Sometimes there is what looks like a 3-5mm "stick" attached to the sores. Possibly the parasite itself?

Saw a video that Steve Wilkes took 2 days ago. Fisheries are patrolling the lake and scooping up all the dead fish and filling up wheely bins . All the big old girls seems like the smaller are not affected at this stage.
Looks like it will be a few years before we start to get the 50+ fish again.
