Scenic Rim community encouraged to speak up

Minister for Water Supply Mark McArdle is urging South East Queenslanders to have their say on future recreation plans at Lakes Maroon, Moogerah and Wyaralong.

A series of discussion papers, released last month, for Lakes Maroon, Moogerah and Wyaralong discuss the various activities currently available and provide an avenue for the community to formerly submit any opportunities they see for recreation on and around the lakes.

“It is crucial that the community have their say about how this precious resource is managed for future generations to enjoy,” Mr McArdle said.

“These recreation areas are public spaces and we want to hear from everyone involved – from the visitors to the people who live adjacent to the recreation areas.

“The response to the release of discussion papers has been very positive and it’s encouraging to see the number of people who are keen to be involved.”

Scenic Rim Regional Council Mayor John Brent said the review process was a great opportunity for locals to ensure they have a say on how best the community can utilise these areas.

“The Scenic Rim Regional Council will be reviewing the discussion papers for Lakes Maroon, Moogerah and Wyaralong and look forward to engaging with Seqwater on current activities available and how best we can manage these in the future.

“The opportunity to ensure the community enjoys recreation for years to come is paramount. It is important we all have a say so we have the best outcomes for our region.”

The review process will result in the development of recreation site master plans for clusters of dams across the South East Queensland region detailing allowable activities, available facilities, management rules and guidelines.
