Post by: Editor on January 29, 2011, 08:01:00 PM
Murray Cod Million Lake Eildon

Using $800,000 of recreational fishing licence revenue, Lake Eildon will be stocked with a million Murray cod fingerlings over three years, commencing December 2010.
These Murray cod will be in addition to the native fish (golden perch and Murray cod) and trout that Fisheries Victoria already releases into Lake Eildon.
To determine how this pulse of juvenile Murray cod survive and contribute to the fishery, the stockings will be accompanied by a monitoring program involving anglers and researchers.
The Murray cod fingerlings will take four to six years to reach the minimum legal length of 60cm.
More than 730,000 Murray cod fingerlings have been released into Lake Eildon since 1994 so anglers can take advantage of the existing cod fishery right now, and look forward to even better fishing in years to come.
