Dumaresq 12.3.12
« on: March 15, 2012, 08:14:45 PM »
Took a mate fishing on the Dumaresq River last Monday. Water levels are still higher than normal but running clear. Unfortunately saw some Water Hyacinth , apparently it has turned up in a few places since the 2011 flood.

My friend had never chased Cod before , and he opened his account with a cute tiny tacker that went 37cm.

He finished the session with 6 Cod , most in that 50-55cm range. I only managed 1 cod , dropped a few others.

Headed out to Tara and Surat from here to see if we could find some fish in the dirty water , but had no luck.

Cheers,
Dave.

Well done on the guiding Dave, shame about the Hyacinth.

Cheers Andrew

Good to know they're still biting.
Looks like you had a great trip
I'll be out that way for the school holidays so I'm looking forward to getting amogst them again.
When do cod usually go quiet for winter out that way?

I don't know about going quiet, I've caught my PB for the Dumaresq in winter. The old saying was always wait for the first frost, then go fishing; or something like that.

The problem with fishing that place in winter is , the temperature of the water you have to wade through . I've only fished there in May and that was bad enough , its fair dinkum icy !!

That's what kayaks are for.
Can't be as bad as tassie highland streams anyway ;)
