Change to access days to lake Kurwongbah,
« on: June 12, 2015, 02:03:54 PM »
This is from this weeks pine rivers press but nothing yet on SEQ water site but I have spoken to them and it will be done shortly.
My opinion is its a lot fairer than the previous arrangement.
Cheers

WATER skiers and paddlers will share recreation on Lake Kurwongbah on different days.

Water Supply Minister Mark Bailey met with local MPs and members of the Lake Kurwongbah Water Ski Zone club last week to outline the lake’s availability.

Mr Bailey said the result was reached after strong representation from local MPs, the Member for Kallangur Shane King and the Member for Pine Rivers, Nikki Boyd.

“Together, we’ve worked towards an outcome that is in everyone’s best interests,” Mr Bailey said.

As of June 30, Waterski Queensland and the Lake Kurwongbah Water Ski Zone club will have use of the lake from Thursday to Saturday.
Also from June 30, Lake Kurwongbah will be open to the general public for paddling from Sunday to Wednesday.

In April last year, the club was told to pack its bags after 55 years of exclusive use of Lake Kurwongbah.

Seqwater CEO Peter Dennis said the shared recreation plan was an interim arrangement while a detailed water quality assessment of the neighbouring Lake Samsonvale was being completed to determine whether additional water-based recreation could be considered in the future.

Following the assessment, Seqwater will engage with the community on the long-term recreation plan for both lakes.

“One of the key lessons from the recreation review is that the community place a high value on being able to access our lakes and surrounding catchments,” Mr Dennis said. For the latest recreation and safety notices, visit www.seqwater.com.au.

We would like to let you know the shared recreation arrangement for Lake Kurwongbah will change at the end of June.

Paddlers will continue to share the lake with club and elite skiers in an arrangement which will enable each recreation activity to be enjoyed on different days, including a weekend day for each activity.

As of Tuesday 30 June 2015:

-          Lake Kurwongbah will be open to the general public for paddling from Sunday to Wednesday inclusive.

-          Waterski Queensland and the Lake Kurwongbah Water Ski Zone club will have use of the lake from Thursday to Saturday inclusive. Paddling is not permitted on these days.

-          The current arrangement for the existing rowing club will not be impacted.

-          Fishing will remain permitted from the shoreline of designated recreation areas 7 days a week, and from paddle craft from Sunday to Wednesday inclusive.

This interim arrangement will remain in place until the water quality assessment of neighbouring Lake Samsonvale is completed. The quantitative assessment will provide the most comprehensive understanding to date of the impacts of different activities on water quality and the North Pine Water Treatment Plant, which treats the raw lake water for drinking.  Recreation at both Lake Samsonvale and Lake Kurwongbah will be reviewed following the completion of the assessment.

Don’t forget to Play it Safe when recreating on Lake Kurwongbah. Visit our website for further information.

Regards,

Seqwater
