Peter Newell Ploppy!
« on: February 15, 2014, 07:53:59 PM »
Hi guys,
i was just cleaning out an old tackle box and found 2 ploppy s by peter newell, ( half of their original paper is still on them) thats how i know. Must be one of the lures i bought a couple of years ago.
Any idea how much one of these lures are worth now?

THey're the small ploppy, 60mm!
They're as good as new, haven't been used before.
THanks!

Welcome to the group FishingNewbie.  Any chance of uploading some photos?  I am sure somebody on here will give you an idea of what they are worth or want to buy them off you.

Cheers Andrew

If that original timber Stump Jumper went for over $800 on eBay last week, a pair of original Peter Newell lures should go for a very tidy sum.

Maybe we should just say the highest bid on eBay for the timber Stumpy was about $850.  Rumours abound about the number of timber Stumpies sold for huge amounts.  It's a pretty simple thing to pretend one changed hands for a certain price.  My brother has one he paints matt black every year and trolls in the Murray.  He thinks the plastic ones are no good.  (I offered him a swap.)

rubber Ploppy's are not classed as high value as a Timber Newell lure by a long way.

I've seen them sell from $30-$65 or a little more depending on market at time of sale.

The Ploppy was a Gower time frame lure, and I'm pretty sure the molds are still in the hands of the owner and could be started again at any time.

@ Aussiebasser,   that Stumpy you talk of I think was a Hand carved one, Flat Bib and very rare lure maybe not in the same class as the Copy Lathe models.   It only took 2 people to think it's worth that much.   I aint one of them :-)
