Well I must say I have watched those whiting popping dvd's from Starlo over and over and applied what I thought was the right technique to my fishing adventures in search of my first whiting caught on a popper/surface lure....

I have just had two weeks on holidays at Caloundra and every time I went out in the kayak all I used to fish was a popper. My absolute aim for this holiday was to catch a whiting.

I will post up a more detailed report later( A Beginners guide) but this is the first whiting of many I caught for the trip, I caught a few more around this size with an almost equal by-catch of bream using this new learnt technique(well for me anyway).

I am absolutely addicted to this new style of fishing for me and I can't wait to get out on the water again to do it again. It's a big call but I reckon a big whiting fights way harder than a big bass.....

In the first pic this model was in the late 30's, it has my new secret weapon, well not so now, hanging from it's mouth, a Jaz Zappa....

I practised catch and release during my learning curve, I was feeling the pressure in the end by all the people back at the units saying I should keep a feed, so on the last day I took the cooler bag and bought home a small feed. See the second pic.

While out there on the last day I came across two other guys fishing the same way I was, fishing for whiting on flats is fun let me tell you. When I found this bloke he had no landing net and his rod was bent in half, I thought he had a ray but it was this huge Tailor. I gave him my net, he landed the fish and he was a happy man. Two casts later after retying his leader he caught another one. This one broke the hooks on his treble, pic 4. I even  caught a smaller model as you can see in pic 2. We were all using 4lb braid and very light leaders so amazing really that we all landed the tailor.

Fishing from a kayak has never been better for me, during the holiday watching all the boats around I thought I wanted one again but by the end of the holiday I knew the kayak is the best way to fish....more soon :youbeauty

Know what you mean.  I would rather fish from my Kayak than my Tinnie.

Great report, gotta do it.
