Title: New Adventures Ahead
Post by: Pinhead on January 05, 2014, 04:50:39 AM
Having taken a job in Gladstone about 6 months back, I decided it is now time to get back into some freshwater fishing. Picked up new kayak yesterday.
Fishing locations I am keen to get to include:
Awoonga - 20 minutes from home
Pikes crossing - 20 minutes
Boyne River upstream of Awoonga - 20 minutes
Callide Dam - 1 hour
Cania Dam - 2 hours

So many options and places to go..I cannot wait.

Good luck with the new locations Greg. Might see you on the water next week, I will be exploring more of the Boyne myself. Staying at Boyne Island & will be fishing from Stokes Crossing to the mouth.

Cheers Andrew

Lots of holes upstream of Awoonga back towards Buliyan, will take a bit more than 20min though, even with new road round the back.
Never really fished them when I was at Buli for 6 month work, more somewhere to cool off with a rumbo on a hot Sat arvo. Mind you that was 28years ago,,might have changed since the dam went in.
Your lucky with a few options salt and fresh to explore.

Don't forget Futter Creek mate.  Good yak access to some great fishing.

thanks Dale..been there and checked that out from the bank..use the old road as a boat ramp. Lots of timber. Awesome bird life in there..black swans and everything else. Hopefully some fish there also. I won't be venturing much further north with the yak..not interested in mud gecko country in a yak thanks.

Greg it's not far north & west to some great saratoga, yellowbelly and / or Sooty Grunter country. Check out some of the Fitzroy feeder rivers....god's country.

And not far to Cania, Wuruma and Callide dams either....  ;)

Cheers,

fitz..

Wuruma is the other one i want to have a fish at also. So many options..gotta get the new yak up here first and give it a go and then work out what sounder etc to put on it. Buying the yak and the associated things that happened is another story. Might have to start a new thread on that one. It will certainly be a learning curve for me..what to use for barra, toga, grunter etc etc
