Hi everybody,
Hope everyone had a merry christmas and about to have a happy new year.Iam thinking about getting a kayak so i can carry up and down heart attack hill and was wondering what you people use and give me a idea what to look for.

If its just for Heart Attack and depending on your size then the cheapy Daylight will do the job.
Me I would not waste my money on it but..
So do you have a Kayak now?
What else do you want to do with it?
Any other info?

I have a coleman scanoe and it is to big to get around the rivers.I have been looking at a fish bandit and a hobie sport but cant see the sence in spending $2150 on one when the out back is $2350

Weight would be my main deciding factor if you are only going to use it for Shines. I use a Mantra Noa (2.7mtrs, 20kg) and a Viking Espri (3.5mtrs, 22kg). I have dragged my Jackson Coosa down there once, never again, not at 30kgs.
Surely you would use it elsewhere as well and that might also influence your decision.

Sit in kayaks are great for that location. When the time comes for the drag up the hill, just throw everything inside the cockpit and nothing will fall out.
Anything 10-12ft is the go. I have Hobie outbacks and I have only used them there once, that hill is the killer.

If you looking at a bandit, then get the Mantra Noa instead mate.
Other than that, if you after a crik / small ribba boat then something round the 10 foot mark will be the go.
Sit ins are good if you dont have much in and out portage as you drag alot of water back into the yak when you do. (nothing that a sponge cant fix)

I have a 120 old town vapor sit in and Pam has an old town loon 11 both are great for shines road I have a greater love of sit ins than most. I'm in Vic on holidays at the moment and I brought an old town guide down I wish I'd brought the two sit ins

Mate just picked up a Malibu Mini-x for 550bucks from BCF. I amm very impressed and reckon it is one of if not the best value for money I have ever seen.
